New Round of Innovation RFPs
The second round of Fall 2021 Call for Innovation Projects is now open.
We are looking for projects that rigorously test an innovative policy, program, or practice aimed at addressing a pressing challenge faced by Californians. Projects will provide ‘proof of concept’ for bold ideas, demonstrating the possibilities for California’s future when we embrace innovative ways of approaching long-standing problems.
Each project will be co-designed and carried out as a partnership between a local or state agency, department, or organization and a California-based research team. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

Got an idea to improve public policy in California through science and technology? Know other young Californians, age 18 to 35 who do? We invite you to apply for our tech policy hackathon that will provide $1,000 cash prizes, mentoring, and support to bring your ideas to fruition. We invite ideas that improve the effectiveness, efficiency, and equity of government agencies and programs, through the improved use of technology. We hope to develop the winning ideas into demonstration projects, draft legisltion, or “moonshot” goals that are achievable in the next 50 to 100 years.

Youth Engagement Lead – Reporting to the Executive Director and the Director of Engagement, the Youth Engagement Lead will be integral to advancing California 100 Initiative’s goal of engaging, inspiring, and empowering a new generation of Californians to shape the state’s long-term future. The position will involve significant engagement with organizations that serve young Californians (ages 30 and younger), including educational institutions, youth-led organizations, and other youth-serving, youth-mentoring and youth-empowerment organizations. In addition, the position will work with relevant stakeholders in technology, arts, entertainment, and design and the various streams of work at the California 100 Initiative, to produce programming that resonates with youth in a variety of regions in California and from a variety of backgrounds. Engagement activities will include remote as well as in-person events, and will include a culminating youth summit in 2023 that builds on, and leverages, the collective work of the California 100 Initiative.
Commission and Events Associate – The position will involve providing logistical support to the work of the Commission via the Executive Director, as well as supporting the work of the Youth Engagement Lead in implementing events, programs, and strategic partnerships with organizations that serve young Californians, including educational institutions, youth-led organizations, and other youth-serving, youth-mentoring and youth-empowerment organizations. Engagement activities will include remote as well as in-person events, and will include a culminating youth summit in 2023 that builds on, and leverages, the collective work of the California 100 Initiative.
Deputy Director – facilitates and ensures timely and coordinated operations between the major activities of the California 100 Initiative, including designing, implementing, and troubleshooting project management systems and processes; involves supervision of operations staff
Operations Assistant – Career position at the UC Berkeley Goldman School of Public Policy, designed to assist with operations connected to California 100, including budgeting, purchasing, procurement, and student personnel management.
